KIERAN BUTLER CLAIMS COLLINGWOOD RUINED MY LIFE 2/5.5
Grace Darling Hotel, 114 Smith Street, Collingwood, until Saturday EVER wondered why your life is so influenced by the actions of 22 men you don't even know? Ever watched replays of the 1977 grand final, hoping that, this time, "we'll get over the line"? Kieran Butler has. Often. And, judging from the wild laughs of recognition, he is not alone. OK, I admit it, I'm not a Collingwood fan, but in a small room at the Grace Darling Hotel - where the club was formed - I was almost seduced. Butler's unpretentious take on the tragedy of being a Collingwood supporter proved a source of therapy for many. Bemoaning his beloved Pies, Butler's kick is formidable. It isn't all black-and-white gold, but isn't that all part of the Collingwood story of unfulfilled promise?
